Soundtrack Project Description and Rubric
Standards:
b. W 7.1 Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence
f. SL 7.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly.
Music Standards: Standard 3—Responding to and Analyzing Works of Art
Students will demonstrate the capacity to listen to and comment on music. They will relate their critical assertions about music to its aesthetic, structural, acoustic, and psychological qualities. Students will use concepts based on the structure of music’s content and context to relate music to other broad areas of knowledge. They will use concepts from other disciplines to enhance their understanding of music.
Project Description: You will be broken up into groups of four. As a group you will brainstorm four (appropriate) songs that you feel connect with what we have been reading about the Native American and European interactions. You should be able to make some connection between the lyrics or mood of the song and what we have been studying. From those four songs you will choose one song to write about and share with the class. You will be sharing your choice by posting on our class blog:
Class Blog
You will need to post the following:
1) A YouTube video of the song (could be the official music video, lyric video etc).
2) The lyrics to the song underneath
3) A brief overview paragraph about why you chose that song
4) Your analysis of the song/lyrics. Your analysis must include specific lyrics from the songs and reference specific quotes/evidence from our class texts.
5) Feel free to enhance your project with relevant pictures, highlights and color.
